Junior Engineer Challenge 2019
On July 19th, teams from 17 primary schools in the Fairford Area took part in the final of the space-inspired Junior Engineering Challenge, run by STEMworks and funded by the Gloucestershire-based RAF Charitable Trust at the Royal International Air Tattoo.As part of the challenge, Year 5 and 6 children were tasked with launching a projectile onto a 'planet' using a catapult that they had made in school. The second part of the challenge involved designing and building a space transport machine from junior Meccano.The children were also given the opportunity to meet Captain Tim Peake who gave us a fascinating insight into what it is like to be an astronaut during his interview.Tim also stayed to present the prizes to the winning teams which were:Overall Champions - Ashton Keynes Primary SchoolPresentation Award - Hatherop C of E Primary SchoolDesign Award - St Lawrence C of E Primary School, LechladeAll students who attended the final also received a Discovery CREST Award to reward them for their STEM project work.
