Secondary Workshops
Engineering Challenge
Suitable for: KS3-4
Student number: up to 60
Workshop length: full day
This workshop offers students an invaluable opportunity to cultivate essential skills within a collaborative framework. Participants are organised into teams of five, where they will engage in a comprehensive problem-solving experience tailored to leverage their individual strengths and interests. Each participant will undertake specific roles akin to those found in a STEM organisation, emphasising the importance of teamwork in reaching project objectives.
Throughout the day, teams will program a Lego Robot to navigate an assault course and activate a circuit on a self-designed structure that ultimately raises a flag. This hands-on approach not only enhances the educational experience but also allows students with diverse interests and abilities to discover their unique contributions, promoting an inclusive atmosphere conducive to innovation and cooperation.
Effective communication is vital, and at the end of the day, teams will present their final solutions, articulating their process and insights gained throughout their collaborative journey. This culmination reinforces both the individual learning experiences and the collective achievements of the team.
