Energising Success at the 2024 Bristol Primary STEM Challenge

Congratulations to Burrington School for emerging victorious at the 2024 Bristol Primary STEM Challenge final hosted at Badminton School! Throughout 2023 and 2024, STEMWorks has been conducting hands-on STEM workshops in the Bristol region for primary schools. These workshops play a crucial role in enhancing children's understanding of the diverse fields of engineering and the various roles engineers play.

Moreover, students were educated on renewable energy and the pivotal role engineering plays in steering us towards a NET Zero future. Selected winners from preliminary school rounds earned a spot in the final competition, where they were tasked with crafting a crane using K'Nex to install a miniature wind turbine.

The young engineers demonstrated remarkable teamwork, exceptional design aptitude, and unwavering perseverance in the competition. These are precisely the skills that the region can leverage to enrich its engineering legacy. STEMWorks serves as the bridge between industry and education by facilitating STEM workshops that equip children with practical engineering skills and insights.

It is paramount to initiate such engagements at the primary school level, ensuring that all children have access to high-quality engineering opportunities. Looking ahead, preparations are already underway for the 2025 Bristol Primary STEM Challenge, and STEMWorks is actively seeking partnerships with local engineering firms to enhance the upcoming event.
